Day Three was about a 3 hour drive from Memphis to Nashville. The drive was so pretty. The freeways are so green and pretty much everywhere you look. We got into Nashville by lunchtime. We unloaded the truck the rest of the day. The weather was AMAZING! I don't even know if I broke a sweat! The humidity level was almost 60% and you wouldn't even know. That night Dallas and Sheridan treated us to dinner at a yummy little Mexican restaurant called Mazatlan. It's just around the corner from their apartment. Then we closed our day with a movie in the apartment.
The next day (Wednesday), was our big Alabama day. We headed out around 11:00. The whole ride, Tanner told us stories about his mission. Kaydence's favorites were the stories about his ducks and squirrel. Our first stop was Fayetteville. We then headed to Huntsville, which is a town Tanner spent most of his mission.
This is the library that Tanner spent all of his time writing me emails and letters.
This was Tanner's first apartment in Fayetteville. The people saw us so we had to make a shoot and run (with a camera haha).
This is the Church building Tanner went to most of his mission. As we were leaving, the missionaries walked up! It was perfect timing. Tanner talked to them and explained how he served here nearly 10 years ago. They took us inside and gave us a couple numbers of people Tanner wanted to contact. We invited them to go to dinner with us that night.
Tanner picked up a new sport on his mission, Disc Golfing. He took us to the course that he played at most of the time. Kaydence had her own disc to play this time. She loved it.
Here's another apartment Tanner lived in.
We went to the Space Center and looked at the big space ships. Kaydence thought they were so cool. She was right, they were actually pretty cool.
One of the people Tanner wanted to try to locate was a dear friend of his. Her name is Sister Wood. She was an elderly lady that had been baptised a few years before Tanner got there. She took the Elder's under her wing and treated them as her grandchildren, but Tanner was her favorite. She has contacted Tanner at least twice a year since he's been off his mission. She would even send him mix tapes with old love songs on them. She would say, Chandra will love these. She was so sweet. In the past couple years, he hadn't heard from her at all. He tried looking at obituaries and couldn't find anything on her. We visited her house and sure enough it was for rent. We talked to one of the neighbors and they confirmed that she had passed last year. Tanner was sad, but he was glad to find out what happened rather than always wondering. She will always have a special place in his and my heart, even though I never had the opportunity to meet her in person, I know I will meet her in the next life.
One of the many restaurants Sister Wood treated the missionaries to was Landry's. It's a very nice seafood house. After she took him there years ago, she told him that he has to bring me here someday. In honor of Sister Wood, we went there, and continued the tradition of treating the Elder's there. The Elder's were so nice and grateful to us. It felt good to do a little good there and I'm so grateful the timing was perfect that we ran into the missionaries at the church. All in all, it was a great trip and I'm so glad we took the time to visit his mission. We made great memories for our family to cherish forever. See Part Three.
